From a screenshot to a formula you can place correctly

A screenshot shows values, but may hide the worksheet coordinates. Recognition and formula generation are two separate steps, with your review between them.

Updated 25 October 2026

Prepare only the relevant area

Use a clear PNG, JPEG or WebP image, up to 8 MB and 16 million pixels. Include row numbers and column letters if possible. Crop out unrelated personal data before uploading. Recognition sends the whole selected image to Replicate after you confirm; the browser cannot selectively hide cells inside it.

Review every recognized column

Recognition may confuse 0 with O, minus signs with dashes, or decimal separators with thousands separators. Edit the recognized grid before continuing. An unreadable cell must not be silently assumed to be zero. If the image does not establish a cell origin, enter it manually.

Coordinates change the formula

This example starts at B5, not A1. The header is B5:D5, amounts are C6:C8 and statuses D6:D8. Put the result in G2 of the same worksheet. The two Complete rows total 600. An A1-based formula would reference different cells even if the words in the preview looked right.

Worked example

B5:D8

SO-003400Complete
=SUMIF(D6:D8,"Complete",C6:C8)

Teaching example, not a live AI response or an Excel execution record.

Try it step by step

  1. Upload the screenshot, inspect the image in the confirmation dialog, then request recognition.
  2. Correct the values and set the origin to B5. Enter the real worksheet name.
  3. Tick the confirmation after checking the data and coordinates.
  4. Describe “sum Amount where Status is Complete; result in G2”, review the outgoing sample and generate.

Before you rely on the result

  • Recognition plus generation uses two of the shared five daily requests per public IP.
  • Only up to 20 rows and 30 columns are recognized. Larger or cropped tables need additional context.
  • If you have the original XLSX, local parsing usually preserves coordinates more reliably than an image.
